Dell has set the tech world abuzz with its latest revamp of the New XPS lineup, introducing a significant shift in sizes and configurations. While it might not be the most extensive shake-up in the history of the XPS series, the alterations are substantial enough to grab attention, promising a notable evolution in the iconic range of laptops.

Size Matters: Enter the 14-inch and 16-inch XPS

The revered 13-inch Dell XPS remains a constant, but the touchbar-equipped XPS Plus has made way for the newly introduced 14-inch XPS. Simultaneously, the 15-inch and 17-inch laptops are being succeeded by a brand-new 16-inch XPS model. This departure from Dell’s traditional size offerings aligns with industry trends, notably Apple’s previous launch of MacBook Pro models in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes in 2021.

Competing with Apple’s Dominance

Although Dell representatives remained coy about directly challenging Apple’s size offerings, speculation suggests a subtle competition between the two tech giants. Dell’s New XPS lineup and Apple’s MacBook Pro have often mirrored each other’s design elements, and the introduction of larger XPS models might be a strategic move to keep pace in the market.

Enhanced Performance and Specifications

The increased size of the New XPS laptops allows for expanded internal space, enabling enhancements such as larger batteries. For instance, the XPS 14 boasts a 69.5WHr battery, a notable upgrade from its predecessors, promising improved battery life—a persistent issue with earlier XPS iterations.

Moreover, the XPS 14 will feature options for Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 graphics, up to 64GB of RAM, an Intel Core Ultra 7 165H CPU, and a 4TB SSD. Accompanying the graphics upgrade, there’s also a boost in the power adapter from a standard 60W to 100W.

However, the power-packed features come at a cost in weight. The New XPS 14, even with the optional OLED display, will weigh 3.8 pounds, surpassing the XPS Plus in weight.

The XPS Trio: 13, 14, and 16 Inches

Meanwhile, the XPS 13 maintains its size and remains a go-to choice for those seeking a reliable high-end business laptop, albeit without discrete graphics. On the other hand, the XPS 16 replaces both the 15-inch and 17-inch models, offering a blend of screen real estate and reduced bulkiness, featuring impressive specs like an Intel Core Ultra 9 185H processor and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070.

Pricing and Availability

Dell has announced the starting prices for these revamped XPS models, with the XPS 13 commencing at $1,299, the XPS 14 at $1,699, and the XPS 16 at $1,899. While specific availability details remain undisclosed, historical patterns suggest a release in the upcoming months, prompting eager buyers to keep an eye out for these revamped New XPS devices.
