Masked Intruders Target College Station Business

Early Monday morning, Military Depot, a long-standing family-owned business in College Station, Texas, was the target of an attempted break-in. Security cameras captured footage of three masked individuals trying to gain entry into the store. The suspects were seen covering a camera with tape and using a crowbar in an effort to shatter the front door.

Case Smien, the owner’s son and wholesale manager, expressed relief that the damage was limited. While an estimated $500 worth of merchandise was stolen, most of the products remained untouched. “I believe in miracles,” Smien said. “It was miraculous they didn’t get through the front door because that glass is no different than the boot room glass.”

Damage and Repairs Underway

Although the front door resisted the break-in attempt, the glass doors to the store’s boot room were not as fortunate, sustaining significant damage. Additionally, the intruders attempted to exploit a wooden panel behind the building. While the panel was layered and held up against the intrusion, it has since been removed and is being replaced with more secure brickwork.

Smien noted the disruption caused by the incident, which adds strain to the challenges small businesses already face. “It’s sad. It’s just another headache to deal with as a small business,” he said, reflecting on the shop’s long history in the community. Military Depot has been a part of College Station for over 40 years, serving as a family-run, Aggie-owned business.

Community and Law Enforcement Response

Military Depot has reported the break-in attempt to the College Station Police Department, and the hope remains that the suspects will soon be identified. Smien emphasized the resilience of the business despite this setback, expressing gratitude for the limited damage and support from the community.

The incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by small businesses in safeguarding their operations, particularly in the face of rising security threats. For Military Depot, the commitment to serving the College Station community endures as they repair and move forward from this ordeal.
