United Airlines is adding 10 international destinations and three new routes for summer 2027, marking a significant United Airlines expansion with nonstop service to lesser-served cities across Europe and Asia.
United adds 10 new international destinations
The Chicago-based airline announced the expansion Tuesday at Newark Liberty International Airport, calling it the largest international network expansion in its history. The new destinations include Ljubljana, Slovenia; Luxembourg City; Ibiza and Valencia, Spain; Marseille and Toulouse, France; Catania and Olbia, Italy; Terceira, Portugal; and Okinawa, Japan.
Eight of the 10 destinations will have no other U.S. airline offering nonstop service, according to United. Most new flights will begin between March and June 2027, with Newark gaining eight of the new destinations.
The expansion continues United’s international growth over the past decade. The airline says it has added 58 international destinations since 2017 and now serves more than 160 international destinations.
“We’ve added flights to nearly 60 new international cities in the last decade,” Patrick Quayle, United’s senior vice president of global network planning and alliances, said in a statement. He said the airline wants to encourage travelers to “discover somewhere new.”
New routes connect major U.S. hubs
Beyond the 10 new cities, United is adding nonstop flights from Los Angeles to Osaka, Japan; Washington, D.C., to Milan; and Denver to Paris. The Los Angeles-Osaka route will operate daily beginning March 27, 2027, while Denver-Paris begins May 27 and Washington-Milan begins May 28.
United also plans to resume nonstop service between San Francisco and Tel Aviv on March 28, operating three times weekly. The airline said the route will offer the most business-class seats between the two cities of any carrier.

Scott Kirby, United’s chief executive, said the United Airlines expansion is designed to differentiate its network while improving travel options for customers.
“We’re going to keep building on that momentum as we welcome the new A321XLR to our fleet,” Kirby said.
A321XLR opens routes to smaller cities
The Airbus A321XLR will play a central role in the expansion, operating new services from the United States to Luxembourg, Toulouse, Ibiza, Valencia and Marseille. The single-aisle aircraft is designed for long-range flights and allows airlines to serve markets that may not generate enough demand for larger wide-body aircraft.
United’s A321XLR will include lie-flat Polaris business-class suites, Premium Plus seats, free Starlink Wi-Fi for eligible MileagePlus members and other upgraded cabin features. The aircraft is scheduled to begin international service Dec. 1 from Washington Dulles to Amsterdam and Dublin before expanding to the new European routes in 2027.
The airline expects the aircraft to support its broader European expansion despite continuing production and supply-chain challenges affecting the A321XLR program, according to a Washington Post report.
