Walt Disney Animation Studios has officially dropped the trailer for its highly anticipated sequel, Zootopia 2, setting the stage for a dynamic comeback of fan-favorite characters and new additions. Slated for release on November 26, 2025, the sequel picks up with Officers Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde as they confront both a mysterious new threat and their own strained partnership.

The newly released trailer gives fans their first extended look at the much-awaited sequel to Disney’s 2016 blockbuster, which grossed over $1 billion and won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. This time around, Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) are no longer just a fox and a bunny trying to prove themselves — they’re now full-fledged officers in the Zootopia Police Department.

But success hasn’t made things easier. According to Chief Bogo (voiced again by Idris Elba), their partnership has grown rocky, prompting an order for the duo to attend a mandatory “Partners in Crisis” counseling retreat. As the therapy begins, so does their next big assignment.

A Snake in the City – Meet the New Villain & Allies

The sequel’s mystery centers on Gary De’Snake, a venomous new villain voiced by Ke Huy Quan, whose cryptic behavior threatens the delicate social balance in Zootopia. As Judy and Nick are forced into deep undercover roles, they traverse uncharted districts — from steamy marshlands to sandy terrains — to uncover Gary’s true intentions.

Several new characters join the world of Zootopia in this sequel. Quinta Brunson lends her voice to Dr. Fuzzby, a cheerful quokka and the duo’s therapy counselor, while Fortune Feimster voices Nibbles Maplestick, an eager beaver with a knack for gadgetry. Director Jared Bush, who also co-directed the original, teased that the new cast brings “fresh energy” to the already vibrant world.

Familiar Voices, Bigger Stakes, and Disney’s Vision Forward

Longtime fans can rejoice as many of the original voices return, including Shakira as Gazelle, Jenny Slate as Bellwether, and Alan Tudyk as Duke Weaselton. Others reprising their roles include Bonnie Hunt, Don Lake, Tommy Chong, Raymond Persi, and Maurice LaMarche, preserving the continuity and charm of the first film.

Zootopia 2, the 64th film from Walt Disney Animation Studios, is produced by Yvett Merino with a score composed by Michael Giacchino. The animation team has expanded the city’s geography, introducing new districts that reflect the film’s evolving emotional themes and societal reflections — all while maintaining Disney’s signature blend of humor, heart, and high-stakes storytelling.

Director Bush notes that beyond action and laughs, the sequel will explore what it truly means to be partners — in work, in friendship, and in conflict.

With a sharp-witted new villain, expanded world-building, and beloved characters facing their biggest emotional test yet, Zootopia 2 promises a story as timely as it is entertaining. Whether you’re returning for nostalgia or new to the city of anthropomorphic animals, this sequel looks set to deliver a cinematic ride worth the wait. Mark your calendars for November 26, 2025.
